Community: Returned Volunteers

As a returned Global Xchange and ICS volunteers we hope that you will see volunteering as the first step in your journey rather than a one off experience. We feel that you will have gained skills, attitudes and understanding from your first hand experiences  that make you an ideal candidate to explain the reality of the issues faced by communities around the world every day. By sharing your experiences you can challenge stereotypes, encourage people to see the links between their own lives and actions and the lives of others and more importantly inspire them to take action. It’s a powerful and exciting opportunity to address the problems and attitudes that allow poverty and inequality to continue. Belfast_fundraise.JPG

We will keep you updated with events and opportunties to take action about the issues that you care about and have seen first hand during your volunteer experience. All you need to do is keep us updated with your current contact details and through our Facebook page, newsletters and this website we'll do our best to keep you informed with all the ways you can stay involved with us.

You can use your log in to access all the documents and forums in the sign in area of the website. Don't forget to keep us updated with what your doing- if you need volunteers for an event, support with a job application or signatures for a campaign let us know-we might just be able to help. Don't be a stranger!

Fundraising

Whether you want to trek the Himalayas, attend a concert, host a big curry night or even take a dare there are lots of exciting ways you can fundraise for us and you know first hand the kind of programmes your hard earned cash will be be going to.

Supporting us in this way gives you the chance to make a bigger difference. Money and food all help, but they don’t last forever. As you know we work to create enduring change by bringing people together to share knowledge, co-ordinating their efforts to maximise impact. Every donation you make brings people together to spark a chain reaction. You’ll help make life better not just for an individual or a family, but for a community or even a country.

We can support you through our skilled fundraisers, resources and local supporter groups.

Campaigns

Through campaigning we can bring the issues and the changes needed to the attention of policy makers and people in the UK.  You can use your voice to help us challenge injustice by speaking up for people who can’t speak out for themselves. aber_india.JPG

Development work isnt all about going overseas there is so much that you can do right here that has massive impact. Our skilled campaigns team can support or advice on how to make the most of your voice or you can join us on the issues we're already shouting about.

 Community Actions and Supporter groups

Community Action opportunities are for all our supporters who are passionate about increasing understanding of international development issues, and building support for international development within the UK. You'll already have done your UK action project at the end of your programme, or perhaps your looking for inspiration: why not run a speaker event, a photo exhibition, a workshop in your local school. We're always on the look out for speakers so let us know if you want to put your name on the list of possible speakers.Belfast_support.JPG

Don't forget your not alone - Supporter groups are all over the country and they are always looking for new members. They support us in a variety of ways from organising events, fundraising and supporting out-going volunteers. Why not see if there is a group in your area.

Keep an eye on the newsletter for any events that other people are running that you may be able to get involved with and if you're running anything let us know and we'll help you to drum up support through our networks.
